Athena Home Loans entered the market to challenge traditional lenders with a faster, fairer, and more transparent home loan experience. Starting with a small team and strong backing, they needed technology that could support rapid growth without the overhead and rigidity of legacy banking systems.

The Challenge

Speed wasn’t a nice-to-have. It was the whole strategy. Athena needed to stand up a full lending operation from scratch, CRM, origination, customer experience, and do it faster than established players with far more resources. Off-the-shelf platforms could get them started, but they wouldn’t keep up for long. They needed more than a system. They needed a foundation that could evolve with them, without slowing them down.

Macquarie University is known for doing things differently, built to challenge tradition and connect education with real-world outcomes. At the centre of that is PACE, Australia’s largest internship program, linking students with employers to build experience that matters after graduation.

The Challenge

Behind the ambition was a messy reality. Systems were fragmented, there was no clear IT strategy, and the student experience suffered as a result. Key programs like PACE were weighed down by manual processes, disconnected data, and limited visibility across students, employers and opportunities. The University had already invested in Salesforce, but it wasn’t being used to its potential. They needed a clear path forward, not another layer of complexity.

Ingenuity Partners stepped in to cut through the noise, mapping the current landscape and defining a practical, student-centred technology strategy. The biggest opportunity was clear: bring engagement, data and processes together in Salesforce. PACE administration was migrated into a single platform, replacing manual work with streamlined workflows and giving teams one place to manage students, employers and placements. Marketing was connected through Marketo, turning Salesforce into a live engine for student engagement, not just a database. What was once fragmented and admin-heavy became connected and usable. Staff could match students and employers more easily, marketing could act on real data, and the wider University could see what good looked like. The result wasn’t just a better system, it was a clear, proven model for how Macquarie could deliver a more connected, student-centred experience at scale.
